Casablanca – Trade between the UK and Morocco has witnessed significant growth in recent years. According to data from the UK Department for International Trade, the value of British exports to Morocco surged from approximately $977 million in 2018 to over $1.5 billion in 2022. Similarly, imports from Morocco to the UK saw a rise from about $916 million in 2018 to over $1.65 billion in 2022. Despite facing a decline in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, trade swiftly rebounded in the following year.

In last January, exports from the UK to Morocco amounted to approximately $139 million, showing an increase of around $45 million compared to the same period last year. Conversely, imports from Morocco to the UK during the same month totaled approximately $180 million, reflecting a rise of about $21 million compared to January 2023. These figures underscore the robust bilateral trade relationship between the two countries, with total British exports to Morocco surpassing $1.3 billion.

July of the previous year saw a record value of British exports to Morocco, totaling over $144 million. Conversely, March of the previous year accounted for the largest share of imports from Morocco, exceeding $200 million. The total imports from Rabat to London in 2023 amounted to approximately $2 billion.

Following the UK’s departure from the European Union and the signing of a partnership agreement with Rabat in early 2021, London has intensified efforts to enhance trade relations with Morocco. This includes expanding the partnership to encompass various priority areas for both governments, such as renewable energy and investment opportunities. In late 2023, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak appointed a special trade envoy as part of the government’s strategy to strengthen economic ties with emerging markets.
