Casablanca – Tesla is preparing to bring its Grok artificial intelligence assistant to vehicles in Morocco through a software update, giving local drivers access to a range of voice-controlled functions inside their cars. The service is expected to become available through an upcoming Tesla update, although the company has not announced a definitive date for its Moroccan rollout.

Tesla announced in September that Grok would be expanded to the Middle East and Morocco as part of a wider international rollout. The initial announcement did not specify the software version required for each market. Subsequent information from Tesla’s support documentation identified version 2026.32.6, or a compatible later release, as the software needed to activate the assistant.

The update had not yet been publicly released in Morocco as of September 22. Reports indicated that the software could begin reaching vehicles within roughly a week, but this timeframe has not been confirmed by Tesla as an official launch schedule. The company is expected to distribute the update gradually, meaning availability could vary between vehicles.

Grok is already available in several international markets, including North America, Europe and parts of Asia. Tesla’s regional information has also identified markets such as Israel, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Jordan as part of the Middle East rollout. Morocco has been included in the broader expansion announced for the region.

Not every Tesla vehicle will necessarily support the assistant. The system requires a compatible AMD processor for the vehicle’s infotainment system, while users must also have either an active Premium Connectivity subscription or access to a Wi-Fi connection. Tesla does not currently require drivers to open a separate Grok account to use the assistant in a compatible vehicle.

Once the necessary software is installed, Grok is expected to appear in the vehicle’s App Launcher. Drivers can access it through the touchscreen, use the microphone button on the steering wheel or activate it through the “Hey Grok” voice command. This setup allows users to communicate with the assistant without having to rely entirely on manual controls on the central screen.

The functions available through Grok cover several aspects of everyday driving. In Assistant mode, the system can search for destinations and provide navigation assistance, while also allowing users to modify routes or add stops. It can make phone calls, search for and play media, and adjust certain climate settings.

The assistant can also draw on Tesla’s digital owner’s manual when answering questions about the vehicle. This could allow drivers to ask about particular functions or features without manually searching through the vehicle’s documentation. Grok can also create reminders associated with specific locations.

Navigation is another area where Tesla has expanded the assistant’s capabilities. Voice commands can be used to alter an existing journey, add destinations or search for nearby points of interest. Tesla has also described Grok as supporting multiple languages, although the exact availability of individual languages can depend on the software and market.

The company is continuing to add functions to the system. Changes to Tesla’s digital owner’s manual indicate that voice-controlled text messaging is being developed, allowing drivers to dictate and send messages through Grok. Tesla has not yet confirmed when this feature will become available in Morocco or identified the software release that will activate it.

Grok should also be distinguished from Tesla’s driving-assistance technologies. The AI assistant is designed to interact with the vehicle’s infotainment system and selected controls, but it does not drive the car. Its functions therefore remain separate from Tesla’s driver-assistance and automated-driving systems.

The assistant was developed by xAI, the artificial intelligence company founded by Elon Musk. Grok was initially introduced as a general-purpose AI assistant in 2023 and has since expanded into areas such as research, writing, coding and the analysis of documents and images. Its capabilities have also been extended to voice and image generation.

Tesla began integrating Grok into its vehicles through an over-the-air software update in 2025. Later software releases expanded its interaction with vehicle functions, turning it from a primarily conversational feature into a system that can assist with navigation, communication, media and selected in-car controls.

The Moroccan launch comes during Tesla’s first year of commercial expansion in the country. The company established a physical presence in Morocco in February 2026, opening a temporary location at Anfaplace Mall in Casablanca and beginning orders for the Model 3 and Model Y. Tesla has also expanded its charging network, with Supercharger locations reported in Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, Marrakech, Agadir and Fez.

For Moroccan Tesla owners, the introduction of Grok will therefore depend primarily on receiving the appropriate software and having a compatible vehicle. Owners can check their current software version by going to Controls and then Software. If the required update is installed and the vehicle meets the hardware and connectivity conditions, Grok should become accessible through the App Launcher.

The precise timing of the Moroccan deployment remains open. Tesla has not announced a firm public date for version 2026.32.6 in Morocco, while estimates concerning its arrival within roughly a week have not been confirmed as an official schedule. The service is expected to become available progressively as Tesla distributes the compatible software to eligible vehicles.
