Casablanca – Morocco showcased its diverse array of agri-food and fisheries products at the Canada International Food Exhibition (SIAL) in Montreal. Spanning 223 square meters, the Moroccan pavilion aimed to foster new business partnerships and solidify its foothold in the Canadian and North American markets.

The 21st edition of SIAL, a renowned gathering for international agri-food industry leaders, has attracted attention from across the globe. Eighteen Moroccan exporters are showcasing their products, ranging from olives and condiments to seafood, couscous, pasta, biscuits, and dates.

Being the featured country at this event is a strategic move for Morocco, providing a prime opportunity to elevate its brand and reinforce its position as a key player in the North American market. Ghita El Gorfi, the general manager of Morocco Foodex, emphasized this significance during the opening ceremony, attended by distinguished figures from various economic and diplomatic spheres.

The Moroccan ambassador to Canada underscored the vital importance of food security, sustainable agriculture, and innovation in ensuring safe, healthy, and high-quality food. She highlighted Morocco’s dedication to offering diverse and premium food products to the global market.

The partnership between Morocco and Canada has flourished over the years, with trade volumes exceeding $1.15 billion. Both the SIAL director and Quebec’s Minister of Agriculture praised Morocco’s participation as a testament to the quality and authenticity of Moroccan products and the shared commitment to bilateral relations.

Morocco was the highlight as the guest country at the 21st edition of SIAL Canada, which took place from May 15th to 17th at the Palais des Congrès in Montreal. This event provided a significant platform to promote Moroccan origin and bolster the Kingdom’s position as a premier producer and exporter in the agri-food sector.

Morocco Foodex has curated a diverse range of culinary demonstrations and a comprehensive program of B2B meetings between Moroccan exhibitors and Canadian buyers throughout the exhibition. This strategic partnership aims to enhance commercial ties between Morocco and Canada. Notably, Moroccan agri-food exports to Canada reached $3 million in 2022, marking an increase of 47% compared to 2019 and 26% compared to 2021. In 2022, the agri-food sector represented 63% of Morocco’s total exports to the North American market.

With promising prospects on the horizon, Morocco’s participation in SIAL Canada is expected to serve as an exceptional platform to showcase national expertise and unveil new partnership and cooperation opportunities.
