Casablanca – Ciments du Maroc, the second-largest cement producer in Morocco and a subsidiary of the German group Heidelberg Materials, has significantly bolstered its market presence through two key acquisitions. This strategic move underscores the company’s commitment to enhancing its portfolio of sustainable materials and solutions.
In a notable expansion, Ciments du Maroc has acquired a 62.62% stake in Asment de Témara, a prominent producer of cement and ready-mix concrete, and a 99.99% stake in Grabemaro, a specialist in aggregate production. Both companies were previously owned by Votorantim Cimentos. This acquisition marks a pivotal step in strengthening Ciments du Maroc’s national footprint and its capability to meet growing market demands.
The newly acquired assets include a cement plant with a production capacity of 1.4 million tons, eight concrete plants with a combined output of 510 m³/h, and two aggregate production sites with an annual capacity of 1.6 million tons. These additions will enhance Ciments du Maroc’s operational capabilities and expand its product offerings.
Furthermore, the acquisition includes a significant stake in the Société Marocaine de Broyage et de Recyclage de Matière S.A., in which Asment de Témara holds a 48.99% share. This company operates a substitute fuel platform that provides innovative solutions for pre-treating and valorizing local industrial waste, contributing to reduced environmental impact and optimized production energy costs.
The deal is still subject to approval from the Competition Council and specific contractual conditions agreed upon by the parties involved. Mohamed Chaïbi, Chairman of the Board at Ciments du Maroc, emphasized that this acquisition aligns with the company’s medium- and long-term strategic vision. “This expansion aims to solidify our position in Morocco’s construction materials market and acquire new expertise,” he said.
Severin Weig, CEO of Ciments du Maroc, highlighted the strategic importance of this acquisition for the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, which is experiencing substantial growth. “Integrating Asment de Témara allows us to enhance our national cement coverage and extend our operations in a strategically vital region, strengthening our ready-mix concrete and aggregate capabilities,” Weig remarked.
Ciments du Maroc operates three cement plants (Aït Baha in Agadir, Had Hrara in Safi, and M’zoudia in Marrakech), four grinding centers (two in Laâyoune, one in Jorf Lasfar, and one in Nador), and 23 concrete plants across the major cities of the Kingdom. This latest expansion reaffirms its position as a leading force in Morocco’s cement industry and its commitment to sustainable growth.
