Casablanca- In recent years, the agricultural and trade relationship between Morocco and Spain has flourished, with significant increases in agricultural exchanges and trade volumes between the two countries. According to the Spanish Federation of Fruit and Vegetable Producers and Exporters (FEPEX), agricultural exchanges between Morocco and Spain have surged to much higher levels compared to exchanges between Spain and several European and Latin countries.

FEPEX reported that Morocco has become Spain’s main supplier outside the European Union, with Moroccan exports valued at 664 million euros, equivalent to 339,476 tons. This figure represents a notable increase compared to the previous year, as exports amounted to 603.3 million euros in the latest statistics, surpassing those from France, which totaled 308 million euros.

The Federal Reserve highlighted a significant shift in Spanish import patterns, noting a 7% decrease in the volume of Spanish imports of French fruits and vegetables from January to September 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. Customs and indirect tax figures revealed that Spanish imports reached 629,632 tons during this period.

Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, unveiled the robust trade relationship between the two countries, indicating that the volume of trade amounted to 20 billion euros. Albares emphasized Spain’s role as both the first customer and supplier to Morocco, underscoring the significance of their bilateral trade ties. He noted that Morocco ranks as Spain’s third trading partner outside the European Union, following only the United States and the United Kingdom. Albares reiterated, “Spain is Morocco’s number one customer, while Morocco is Spain’s third global supplier. We seek to double trade with Morocco in several sectors.”

These developments underscore the growing economic partnership between Morocco and Spain, with agricultural exchanges playing a pivotal role in strengthening their bilateral ties. As both countries continue to prioritize cooperation and trade expansion, the future looks promising for further growth and collaboration across various sectors.
