Casablanca – The Moroccan car market has seen a modest growth in new car sales, with a total of 64,918 units sold by the end of May 2024. This marks an increase of 1.39% compared to the same period last year, according to the latest figures released by the Moroccan Association of Vehicle Importers (AIVAM).

Passenger vehicles segment

The passenger vehicles (PV) segment experienced a slight decline, with new registrations dropping by 0.29% to 58,193 units. Despite this overall decline, certain brands have performed exceptionally well.

– Dacia continues to lead the PV market, commanding a 26.16% market share with 15,225 new registrations since January.

– Renault follows with a market share of 15.47%, translating to 9,000 units sold.

– Hyundai holds an 8.22% share of the market with 4,786 units sold.

Light commercial vehicles segment

The light commercial vehicles (LCV) segment, on the other hand, has shown significant growth. Sales in this category rose by 18.82% to a total of 6,725 units.

– Renault strengthened its position in the LCV market with a remarkable 46.07% increase in sales, totaling 1,782 units and capturing 26.50% of the market share.

– Ford increased its sales to 922 units, representing 13.71% of the market.

– DFSK sold 766 units, accounting for 11.39% of the market.

Premium segment

In the premium car market, several brands have stood out:

– Audi leads with a market share of 3.17% and 1,845 units sold.

– BMW follows closely with a 2.77% market share and 1,612 units sold.

– Mercedes-Benz holds a 2.13% share with 1,238 units sold.

Notable Performances

– Porsche saw significant growth, selling 276 units since the start of 2024, an impressive increase of 43.01% compared to the same period last year.

– Conversely, Jaguar experienced a downturn, with sales falling by 14% to 43 units.

May 2024 highlights

The month of May 2024 alone witnessed the sale of 15,970 units across both PV and LCV segments. This represents an 8.46% increase compared to May 2023, where 14,725 units were sold.

As the Moroccan automotive market continues to evolve, these figures highlight the dynamic nature of consumer preferences and the varying performance of different car brands. With an overall upward trend in sales, the industry remains optimistic for further growth throughout the remainder of the year.
