Casablanca – Morocco has officially launched a new digital platform named TijarIA, aimed at simplifying and accelerating foreign trade operations through enhanced access to information and the use of cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies. The announcement was made during the third edition of GITEX Africa, held in Marrakech from April 14 to 16.
A strategic digital shift for Moroccan trade
The platform was developed as part of the 2025–2027 Action Plan of the State Secretariat in charge of Foreign Trade and was created in partnership with Portnet S.A., Morocco’s national single window for external trade procedures. This initiative places information accessibility and digital transparency at the heart of Morocco’s trade policy reforms.
TijarIA is aligned with Morocco’s international obligations, including those outlined in the World Trade Organization’s Trade Facilitation Agreement. Article 1 of the agreement requires member states to ensure that trade-related regulations and procedures are easily accessible to the public—a principle that TijarIA helps realize through its centralized and open information model.
Features and capabilities
TijarIA leverages artificial intelligence to offer a user-friendly and responsive experience. At its core is a smart conversational agent (chatbot) capable of delivering accurate, context-specific answers to a wide array of trade-related inquiries. The system is available 24/7, offering uninterrupted support to economic operators.
Key services available on the platform include:
- Legal and regulatory information covering customs-controlled and non-controlled products, import/export licenses, tariff quotas, anti-dumping measures, and precautionary regulations.
- Trade agreement insights, such as rules of origin, applicable duties, technical standards, and details of regional and bilateral agreements including the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
- Guides and practical tools, such as user manuals, investment codes, tariff cards, and reference materials from Portnet, the Moroccan Exporters’ Association (ASMEX), and other relevant institutions.
- Customized assistance for understanding required documents, duties, fees, and specifications tied to the import/export of goods.
By consolidating and regularly updating this vast range of data, TijarIA seeks to reduce procedural bottlenecks and enhance decision-making for businesses involved in global commerce.
Empowering SMEs and enhancing competitiveness
While the platform is open to all economic actors, it places special emphasis on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which often face greater challenges in navigating international trade regulations. With fast, accurate access to official information, SMEs will be better positioned to engage in global markets, comply with legal requirements, and reduce operational costs.
The platform is also expected to contribute significantly to improving Morocco’s trade competitiveness by enabling businesses to respond more efficiently to evolving global standards, expand their export markets, and integrate more effectively into global value chains.
Phased implementation for optimal integration
TijarIA will be deployed initially as a pilot project in collaboration with selected industry professionals. This trial phase is designed to assess the platform’s performance in real-world conditions and to incorporate user feedback for further refinement. Following this stage, TijarIA will be gradually generalized to all foreign trade stakeholders across Morocco, ensuring a smooth and effective digital transition.
The launch of TijarIA reflects Morocco’s strategic commitment to modernizing its foreign trade infrastructure through digital innovation. By creating a centralized, intelligent platform for accessing up-to-date trade information, Morocco aims to enhance operational transparency, support exporters and importers, and position itself as a more competitive player in the international economy.
