Casablanca – Morocco has made an impressive start to 2025, with tourism continuing to flourish following the record-breaking achievements of 2024. The country welcomed 1.2 million tourists in January, marking a historic milestone and reinforcing Morocco’s growing reputation as a leading global travel destination.

The Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy reported that January’s 1.2 million arrivals represent a remarkable 27% increase compared to the same month in 2024, which translates into an additional 272,000 tourists. This record-breaking figure highlights Morocco’s rapid growth in the tourism sector, building on the momentum of the previous year, which saw significant advancements in both arrivals and tourism revenues.

This record performance is particularly significant as it surpasses the symbolic one million tourist threshold for the first time in January. This achievement reflects the growing global appeal of Morocco, attracting a diverse range of international visitors throughout the year, including the typically quieter months of winter. The Ministry of Tourism has attributed this success to the continued effectiveness of the strategic initiatives launched in recent years, as well as the government’s efforts to enhance Morocco’s visibility and attractiveness as a year-round destination.

The success of 2024 also set the stage for this impressive start to 2025. In addition to the increase in tourist arrivals, Morocco set another record in 2024, with tourism revenues reaching a historic high of $11.5 billion, marking a 43% increase compared to 2019. This underlines the continued growth and recovery of the sector post-pandemic. The increase in foreign exchange revenues indicates the growing economic impact of tourism, contributing significantly to the Kingdom’s economy.

Fatima-Zahra Ammor, Morocco’s Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, expressed her enthusiasm for the January results, describing the new record as a testament to Morocco’s increasing status as a top tourist destination. She highlighted that surpassing one million visitors in January signals that the Kingdom is solidifying its position as a year-round tourist destination, drawing travelers not just in peak seasons but throughout the entire year.

Ammor also noted that these successes are a direct result of the country’s tourism roadmap, which places the tourist experience at the heart of Morocco’s offerings. The roadmap focuses on providing authentic, immersive experiences that allow visitors to explore the diverse cultural, natural, and historical riches across the Kingdom. From the beaches and mountains to the desert and imperial cities, Morocco offers a wide range of attractions, ensuring that tourists can enjoy unique experiences regardless of the season.

The remarkable growth in tourism arrivals and revenues also highlights the effectiveness of Morocco’s strategic policies aimed at diversifying the country’s tourism offerings and expanding its appeal beyond traditional markets. Morocco’s promotion of its lesser-known regions, along with its investments in sustainable tourism and infrastructure development, have played a key role in attracting a wider variety of international visitors, helping the country become a top destination on the global tourism map.

The success of Morocco’s tourism industry is expected to continue throughout 2025 as the country capitalizes on the positive trends from January. By focusing on enriching the visitor experience and developing new tourism products, Morocco is positioning itself to not only maintain but expand its status as a leading global destination in the years to come.

With a strong start to 2025 and a solid foundation built on the achievements of 2024, Morocco is poised for continued success in the tourism sector, driving both economic growth and international recognition.
