Casablanca – Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, unveiled in Rabat the latest findings from the “Moroccan Industry Barometer,” revealing remarkable achievements in the Moroccan industrial sector for the fiscal year 2022. The sector demonstrated resilience, recording a record transaction figure of 801.5 Billion Dirhams (approximately $82.6 Billion).

The barometer, based on a comprehensive survey conducted by the Ministry covering 10,891 operational companies across various industrial sectors nationwide, aims to provide insights and analyses to evaluate the economic performance of the industrial sector and identify its development prospects.

Mezzour emphasized that the notable performance of the industrial sector is attributed to the significant contributions of key sectors such as food industries (23.1%), chemical and semi-chemical industries (23%), and automotive industry (17.8%).

Despite economic challenges and the unstable international geopolitical context, major economic indicators for the sector showed significant growth compared to previous years. Value-added reached 212.4 Billion Dirhams ($21.9 Billion), while production amounted to 738.7 Billion Dirhams ($76.2 Billion). Investments in the sector totaled 33.9 Billion Dirhams ($3.5 Billion) in 2022.

The employment sector also witnessed remarkable growth, with job positions increasing by over 8.8% to reach 870,759 during 2022, marking a 2.4-fold increase compared to 2012. Mezzour highlighted substantial growth in employment within specific sectors, notably aviation (up 21%), automotive (up 13%), and textile and leather industries (up 10%).

Furthermore, the distribution of industrial employment for 2022 showed a relatively balanced gender representation, with women constituting 40% of the workforce and holding 13% of managerial positions.

Regarding the capital structure in the national industrial sector, the data revealed that domestic capital represented 71.5% of the total industrial capital, while foreign-origin capital accounted for 28.5%.

The Moroccan Industry Barometer serves as a tool for policymakers and industry stakeholders, providing comprehensive insights into the Moroccan industrial landscape. It enables informed decision-making to strengthen industrial growth and contribute to the country’s economic development.
