Casablanca – During the initial two months of 2024, the Oriental region experienced an increase in entrepreneurial activities, marked by the establishment of 947 new businesses. These ventures were recorded by the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC), indicating an active economic environment. Among these, 418 were formalized as legal entities, while 529 were initiated by individuals, showcasing a balanced mix of corporate and individual entrepreneurship.
Nador, a significant center within the Oriental region, led this surge by hosting 417 of the newly formed businesses. Other cities like Oujda, Berkane, and Taourirt also made significant contributions to the region’s economic growth, indicating widespread entrepreneurial initiatives.
Moreover, the commerce sector emerged as the predominant segment, constituting 47.01% of the total businesses established, closely followed by services (16.01%) and construction and real estate activities (13.98%). This diversification across sectors highlights the region’s adaptability and resilience to varying economic domains.
At the national level, the entrepreneurial momentum extended beyond the Oriental region, with a total of 16,171 businesses established across Morocco during the same period. Of these, 11,642 were registered legal entities, indicating a favorable regulatory framework for business development. Additionally, 4,529 businesses were initiated by individuals, demonstrating the entrepreneurial spirit prevalent among Moroccan citizens.
Meanwhile, in the Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, entrepreneurial activities surged, with 2,483 businesses established by the end of February 2024. Tangier emerged as a significant economic center, witnessing the establishment of 1,821 new businesses, followed by Tetouan, Larache, and other cities.
The commerce sector remained prominent in this region as well, accounting for 43.15% of the total businesses established, followed by various services (17.39%) and construction and real estate activities (14%), indicating a diverse economic landscape.
Regarding legal structures, single-member limited liability companies (SARL-AU) constituted 63.2% of the newly established businesses, reflecting the flexibility and attractiveness of this business model. Additionally, SARLs made up 36.5% of the total businesses, highlighting the popularity of limited liability structures among entrepreneurs.
Overall, these statistics underscore Morocco’s growing entrepreneurial ecosystem, characterized by diversity and resilience. The significant number of businesses created across different regions reflects the country’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for economic growth and development.
