Casablanca – In a push to stimulate economic activity and tackle rural unemployment, Moroccan authorities and international development partners have launched a series of initiatives aimed at supporting green entrepreneurship and job creation in the country’s countryside.
These efforts fall under the broader “Revive” program and are backed by a $6.4 million funding package provided by the European Union and the French Development Agency (AFD). The funding targets environmentally and socially focused projects in rural provinces, with a particular emphasis on agriculture-related sectors.
Managed by the Agricultural Development Agency (ADA), the program includes a new call for expressions of interest, inviting national and international non-governmental organizations to help implement the initiative. Selected NGOs will support aspiring entrepreneurs in rural communities through business incubation, skills training, technical assistance, and access to financing adapted to local realities.
The initiative is designed to convert promising ideas into practical, job-generating enterprises—particularly in agricultural and para-agricultural services. These ventures are expected to strengthen the rural economy, enhance environmental sustainability, and provide long-term income opportunities for young people.
The program covers twenty rural districts across the Fès-Meknes, Eastern, and Souss-Massa regions, aiming to build a local ecosystem that nurtures innovation and fosters inclusive growth. A comprehensive support system will be deployed, covering entrepreneurial design, mentorship, and market integration.
Several projects have already been selected as part of the “Revive” program. One, known as TARGAAID, focuses on improving soil fertility across 13 municipalities in the Taounate province through increased use of organic fertilizers. The project aims to reduce dependence on chemical inputs while training farmers in sustainable resource management and creating a value chain around compost production.
Another project, FIMABIO in the Figuig province, eastern Morocco, is working to strengthen agricultural resilience and promote sustainable economic alternatives through cooperative-based models. The initiative is expected to involve up to 30 groups of producers and contribute to local self-reliance.
International partners have emphasized the importance of joint efforts in supporting rural development. A representative of the European Union Delegation in Morocco described the initiative as a reflection of the strong partnership with Morocco and a shared commitment to inclusive and environmentally conscious growth.
With a focus on economic empowerment, regional equity, and environmental stewardship, the program aims to lay the groundwork for long-term, sustainable development in Morocco’s rural communities—building not just jobs, but a greener and more resilient future.
