Casablanca – Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is setting a new standard in environmental responsibility by advancing its transition to a fully electric vehicle fleet, marking a major milestone in its sustainability efforts. The national airline has successfully replaced nearly 200 combustion-engine vehicles with state-of-the-art, 100% electric models. This ambitious move, part of a larger green transition strategy, positions RAM as the first company in Morocco to operate an entirely electric fleet.

The initiative began with a strategic partnership between RAM and Leader Location, a subsidiary of the Auto Hall Group, which supplied the vehicles under long-term leasing agreements. The new fleet, comprising compact and utility electric vehicles, is already operational at key locations, including the airline’s headquarters in Casablanca and several major airports nationwide, including Casablanca, Rabat, Oujda, Fès, Agadir, Marrakech, Dakhla, Laâyoune, Al Hoceima, Tétouan, Errachidia, Essaouira, Tangier, and Nador.

This first phase of the transition has made significant strides in reducing the airline’s environmental footprint. With an estimated reduction of around 400 tons of CO2 emissions annually, RAM is not only cutting its carbon footprint but also enhancing its operational efficiency and reducing fleet management costs. The company has committed to furthering this green agenda, with future plans to electrify its airport support vehicles as well.

CEO Hamid Addou highlighted that this transition is a core component of RAM’s broader commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability. “We are proud to be taking meaningful steps in our fight against climate change,” said Addou. “This project aligns with our long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, and we are dedicated to continuing our efforts to make sustainable mobility the norm.”

To support the widespread adoption of these electric vehicles, RAM has also installed nearly 70 solar-powered charging stations across its facilities, ensuring the infrastructure is in place to maintain the fleet’s efficiency. This move demonstrates RAM’s ongoing investment in renewable energy and its commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its operations.

Royal Air Maroc’s green transition goes beyond just vehicle electrification. The airline has already been recognized for its efforts to reduce energy consumption in its facilities, promote waste recycling, and invest in renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic solar panels. In 2025, RAM became the first African airline to operate a carbon-neutral flight using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), reinforcing its leadership in environmentally responsible aviation.

With these comprehensive initiatives, Royal Air Maroc is not only contributing to the reduction of Morocco’s carbon footprint but also setting a powerful example for other companies in the region. RAM’s transition to an all-electric fleet is a significant leap toward the realization of a cleaner, greener future for the aviation industry.
