Casablanca – Morocco’s OCP Group is preparing to raise approximately $515.5 million through a new bond issuance aimed at financing a broad investment program focused on industrial expansion, renewable energy, water security, and green ammonia production.
The fundraising initiative marks another stage in the company’s long-term transformation strategy as it seeks to strengthen its position in global fertilizer markets while aligning its operations with growing international demand for sustainable industrial production.
The bond program, approved by Morocco’s capital market regulator, is scheduled to open to qualified domestic investors in mid-June 2026. The financing will support projects designed to increase production capacity, improve resource efficiency, and accelerate the transition toward low-carbon industrial activities.
The planned issuance comes as OCP continues to implement one of the largest industrial investment programs in Morocco, spanning mining, manufacturing, energy, water, and logistics infrastructure.
Supporting a new phase of growth
The latest financing operation forms part of a broader investment strategy that OCP has pursued since 2008 to strengthen competitiveness across the phosphate value chain.
Over the past two decades, the group has expanded mining capacity, modernized industrial facilities, and upgraded transport and export infrastructure. The current phase places greater emphasis on sustainability, renewable energy integration, and technological innovation.
Among the company’s key objectives is increasing annual production capacity for sustainable plant nutrition products from 16 million tons to 19 million tons by 2027. New mining and industrial projects under development in Meskala and Mzinda are expected to play a major role in achieving this target.
The investments are intended to help the company respond to growing global demand for agricultural inputs while improving operational efficiency and long-term resilience.
Renewable energy becomes a strategic pillar
As part of its transformation agenda, OCP is accelerating efforts to increase the use of renewable energy throughout its operations.
The company plans to power industrial facilities through a combination of solar and wind energy projects, reducing dependence on conventional energy sources and lowering carbon emissions.
The transition reflects wider changes taking place across global industrial sectors, where environmental performance is becoming increasingly important for competitiveness and market access.
By expanding renewable energy use, OCP aims to strengthen its energy security while supporting Morocco’s broader ambitions to increase clean electricity generation and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Water security gains importance
Water management has become another central component of the company’s investment strategy.
Morocco has faced several years of persistent drought and increasing pressure on water resources, prompting major investments in alternative water supply solutions.
In response, OCP is expanding desalination infrastructure to ensure reliable supplies for industrial activities while contributing to water availability in nearby communities.
The company’s objective is to achieve greater water self-sufficiency through the use of desalinated seawater, reducing dependence on conventional freshwater resources and improving resilience against future climate-related challenges.
Industry observers increasingly view water security as a critical factor for the long-term sustainability of industrial operations in water-stressed regions.
Green ammonia and hydrogen projects move forward
One of the most ambitious elements of OCP’s investment strategy is the development of green ammonia production.
Ammonia is a key component in fertilizer manufacturing, and global production remains heavily dependent on fossil fuels. OCP aims to reduce reliance on imported ammonia by producing it locally using renewable electricity and green hydrogen technologies.
The company views green ammonia as an important opportunity to improve supply security while reducing the environmental footprint of fertilizer production.
Several projects linked to green hydrogen and green ammonia are being developed across the country, including investments in mining and industrial sites in Meskala, Mzinda, Khouribga, Benguerir, Ouled Teima, and Boucraâ.
Among the flagship initiatives is a major project in Tarfaya, where OCP plans to build a green ammonia production facility capable of producing one million tons annually. The complex is expected to be powered by solar and wind installations with a combined generation capacity of approximately 4.4 gigawatts.
The project is expected to become one of the largest renewable-energy-linked industrial developments in Morocco.
Nationwide investments support industrial development
Beyond its renewable energy initiatives, OCP continues to invest in mining and industrial infrastructure across several regions.
Development work is advancing in Meskala, where exploration and technical studies are underway to support future mining operations. In Mzinda, the company plans to establish a new mining and chemical complex that will process phosphate resources from several production areas.
Additional projects are being implemented in the Khouribga and Gantour basins, including new mines, washing facilities, and infrastructure upgrades intended to increase productivity and support future output growth.
Meanwhile, the Boucraâ site in Morocco’s southern provinces is benefiting from investments aimed at expanding mining activities, strengthening storage capacity, and enhancing export infrastructure.
Together, these projects represent a significant expansion of the country’s industrial and mining capabilities.
Economic impact extends beyond OCP
The company expects its investment program to generate benefits that extend well beyond its own operations.
OCP aims to contribute to the development of a broader industrial ecosystem involving approximately 600 companies operating in sectors such as energy, manufacturing, agriculture, logistics, and industrial services.
According to company estimates, the investments could support the creation of around 25,000 direct and indirect jobs, helping stimulate economic activity in multiple regions while encouraging the growth of industries linked to renewable energy and sustainable technologies.
As global demand for food production and sustainable agricultural solutions continues to increase, OCP’s investment strategy reflects an effort to combine industrial expansion with environmental sustainability.
The planned $515.5 million bond issuance is expected to provide additional resources to support these ambitions, reinforcing the company’s long-term objective of strengthening production capacity while advancing Morocco’s transition toward a greener and more diversified economy.
