Casablanca – Morocco’s tourism sector is on a remarkable growth trajectory in 2025, welcoming 13.5 million visitors by the end of August—a 15% increase compared to the same period in 2024, according to the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy. The surge has been largely fueled by a record summer season and the strong return of Moroccans living abroad, underlining the Kingdom’s appeal as a leading Mediterranean destination.

The summer months of July and August alone saw 4.6 million arrivals, up 6% from the previous year. The Moroccan diaspora played a key role in this performance, with 3 million Moroccans residing abroad visiting the country during the same period—a 13% increase over summer 2024. These figures reflect both the deep attachment of the Moroccan diaspora to their homeland and Morocco’s growing ability to attract international travelers.

Tourism revenue has also surged alongside visitor numbers. By the end of July, Morocco had hosted 11.6 million tourists, generating $6.9 billion in foreign currency earnings—a near 13% increase compared to the same period in 2024, or an additional $770 million. These results highlight the sector’s contribution as a strategic driver of the national economy.

The Ministry of Tourism credits these strong outcomes to the 2023–2026 Tourism Roadmap, which prioritizes expanding air connectivity, enriching Morocco’s tourism offerings, and incentivizing investment in accommodation and leisure activities. Multiple mechanisms have been introduced to encourage private-sector investment in hospitality and entertainment, supporting the sector’s rapid expansion.

Morocco’s performance stands out even more in a global context. While the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) projects worldwide tourism growth of just 5% in 2025, Morocco’s sector is expanding at a pace far above the global average. This positions the Kingdom among the most dynamic destinations in the Mediterranean and reinforces its reputation as a top travel destination for both regional and international tourists.

The sustained increase in arrivals is not only driven by international visitors but also by the domestic market and the Moroccan diaspora. The Ministry notes that this dual growth underscores Morocco’s resilience and the continued effectiveness of strategic tourism policies. By enhancing air links, diversifying tourism products, and fostering investment in infrastructure, Morocco has created an environment that supports both leisure travelers and business tourism alike.

Experts see the 2025 results as evidence of Morocco’s long-term competitiveness in the global tourism landscape. With strong government support, targeted incentives, and growing international appeal, the Kingdom is on track to achieve another record year, further solidifying its status among the world’s leading tourism destinations.

As the sector continues to expand, Morocco’s tourism performance serves as a benchmark for the Mediterranean region, demonstrating how strategic planning, investment, and diaspora engagement can combine to drive exceptional growth. The strong summer performance, coupled with the year-to-date growth, suggests that Morocco could surpass its 2025 targets, setting new standards for visitor numbers and revenue.
