Casablanca – Morocco is increasingly recognized as a leading destination in the global tourism market, with multiple international reports highlighting its appeal for a diverse range of travelers. In 2025, the kingdom has been ranked among the world’s top destinations for both affordability and inspiration, reflecting its growing influence on the international travel scene.
A British ranking by GB News placed Morocco among the world’s best budget-friendly destinations for 2025, alongside Hungary and the Dominican Republic. The report highlighted Morocco’s unique combination of Eastern charm, authentic hospitality, and a mild climate, offered at competitive prices suitable for travelers of all budgets. Key cities such as Agadir and Marrakech remain central to Morocco’s tourism success. Agadir, on the Atlantic coast, has become a major winter destination due to its warm climate and wide beaches, where travelers can enjoy a full week at an all-inclusive resort for under $500. Marrakech, the “Red City,” attracts visitors with its historic medina, Jemaa el-Fnaa square, vibrant markets, and luxurious hotels, blending cultural authenticity with modern amenities.
The international travel platform Kayak ranked Morocco sixth among the world’s most inspiring destinations for 2025. The ranking emphasized the country’s rich geographic and climatic diversity—from southern desert dunes to the snow-capped Atlas Mountains—and its historic cities, coastal towns, and culturally rich medinas. Emerging destinations such as Essaouira, Chefchaouen, and Dakhla were also highlighted for combining scenic beauty with local character.
Morocco’s global standing is further confirmed by the UN Tourism rankings, which placed the kingdom 13th worldwide, making it Africa’s leading tourism hub. Between January and October 2025, Morocco welcomed 16.6 million visitors, a 14% increase over the same period in 2024. The country has invested approximately $137 million in luxury resorts and added over 43,000 new hotel beds since 2023, signaling strong private-sector confidence and a commitment to both high-end and mid-range tourism offerings.
Government-led initiatives, including the Vision 2030 plan, aim to position Morocco among the world’s top ten destinations for quality and sustainability. Investments are being made in emerging desert and coastal regions, alongside infrastructure improvements such as high-speed train expansions and the enlargement of Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca to accommodate 35 million passengers annually by 2029. These projects also support Morocco’s preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which it will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
The tourism sector’s resurgence is evident in 2024 figures, with over 15 million visitors generating roughly $10.7 billion in revenue, a 7.2% increase from the previous year. Early 2025 statistics show continued momentum, with 11.6 million tourists visiting in the first seven months, confirming Morocco’s position as a preferred destination for both European and global travelers.
Morocco’s recognition across multiple international rankings demonstrates its ability to combine cultural heritage, natural beauty, and modern infrastructure into a compelling travel experience. By offering accessible, high-quality, and sustainable tourism options, Morocco is solidifying its reputation as a leading global destination and Africa’s gateway to international travel.
