Casablanca- Morocco continues to assert its position as a pioneer in energy transformation with ambitious projects aimed at enhancing its energy sovereignty. The latest endeavor involves the establishment of two high-voltage electric roads linking the cities of Dakhla and Casablanca, marking significant progress in the utilization of renewable energy sources and carbon footprint reduction.

The decision to launch this groundbreaking project, spanning approximately 1,400 kilometers, underscores Morocco’s commitment to leveraging its own capabilities and resources to secure its energy future. Managed by the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water, this initiative aligns with the country’s strategic approach towards decarbonization and energy source diversification.

This innovative initiative, as noted by the Moroccan Center for Situation, demonstrates a proactive stance in addressing global energy challenges, particularly in mitigating climate change and pursuing sustainable solutions for environmentally-friendly economic development. Moreover, Morocco aims to position itself as a key player in the green hydrogen sector, as outlined in its national strategy for green hydrogen development. The strategy targets the production of 100,000 tons of green hydrogen by 2030, with half of this output earmarked for export.

By capitalizing on its strategic geographical location, Morocco not only aims to meet its domestic clean energy demands but also seeks to emerge as a significant player in the international energy arena, particularly in facilitating energy exchanges between Africa and Europe.

These initiatives underscore Morocco’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development and its determination to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of clean energy on both regional and global scales.
