Casablanca – With just eight months remaining until the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Morocco is intensifying efforts to ensure a world-class tournament. The Kingdom has launched more than 120 development projects across six host cities—Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Fez, Marrakech, and Agadir—as part of a national strategy to deliver an unprecedented edition of the continental championship.

A high-level meeting held on Thursday at the Ministry of Interior brought together top government officials, local authorities, and infrastructure leaders to review the progress of ongoing works. The agenda focused on the construction and renovation of stadiums, upgrades to urban mobility networks, and the broader transformation of public spaces ahead of the December 21, 2025 to January 26, 2026 tournament.

According to the Ministry of Interior, preparations are progressing according to schedule. Stadium works in all six cities are on track, with authorities confirming that facilities will be ready at least one month before kickoff. Alongside the stadium developments, complementary urban programs are being rolled out to modernize roadways, streamline public transport, and enhance the areas surrounding the stadiums for visitors and local residents alike.

The host cities are also seeing significant investments in hospitality and public amenities. These include initiatives to improve access to stadiums, create vibrant public zones for fans, and organize cultural and entertainment events that will showcase Morocco’s rich heritage throughout the tournament.

Officials emphasized that the 2025 AFCON is more than a sporting event—it is a strategic opportunity to elevate Morocco’s international profile and demonstrate its capacity to host major global events. The tournament is expected to boost tourism, promote Moroccan culture, and serve as a catalyst for local economic growth.

The meeting brought together representatives from several key government bodies, including the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Economy and Finance (through its Budget Department), and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. Also in attendance were officials from regional and local councils of the six host cities, along with senior leadership from national agencies responsible for telecommunications, railways, airports, highways, and public infrastructure. This broad participation highlights the coordinated, interministerial and cross-sector effort behind Morocco’s preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

As anticipation builds across the continent, Morocco remains focused on delivering not only a successful AFCON but also a lasting legacy for its cities and citizens.
