Casablanca – Moroccan agricultural products are experiencing remarkable growth in the German market, driven by their superior quality, competitiveness, and alignment with stringent European standards. This dynamic was highlighted during the 32nd edition of the international trade fair Fruit Logistica, held in Berlin, where Morocco showcased its rich and diverse agricultural offerings.
Significant export growth
According to Morocco’s Ambassador to Germany, Zohour Alaoui, Moroccan agricultural exports to Germany have surged by 53% between 2020 and 2024. Export volumes rose from 88,915 tons to 136,113 tons, reflecting the growing demand for Moroccan products in the German market. This growth is attributed to strategic government efforts, the proactive support of institutions like Morocco Foodex, and the entrepreneurial spirit of Moroccan exporters.
Vegetable exports, including tomatoes, berries, peppers, watermelons, avocados, and zucchinis, have seen an impressive increase of 87% over the past four years, reaching 96,320 tons in 2024. Citrus fruits, a staple of Moroccan agriculture, recorded a 10% growth in exports to Germany, while processed agricultural products experienced a 56% rise, totaling 19,595 tons.
Quality and competitiveness: The key drivers
Ambassador Alaoui emphasized that the growing recognition of Moroccan agricultural products in Germany stems from their consistent quality improvements and compliance with European standards. The Moroccan pavilion at Fruit Logistica attracted considerable attention from German importers and major retail chains, particularly for fresh produce, citrus fruits, and red berries.
This positive trend is underpinned by Morocco’s strategic focus on enhancing the competitiveness of its agricultural sector. Investments in modern farming techniques, improved supply chain logistics, and rigorous quality control measures have bolstered the appeal of Moroccan products in international markets.
Showcasing Morocco at Fruit Logistica
Morocco’s participation in Fruit Logistica for the 24th time underscores its commitment to strengthening its presence in the global fresh produce market. The Moroccan pavilion, organized by Morocco Foodex, spanned 726 square meters and featured 28 booths representing key players from the agri-food industry, packaging sector, and logistics providers, including the Tanger Med port and logistics hub.
Visitors to the pavilion explored a wide array of Moroccan agricultural products, from citrus fruits, fresh vegetables, and berries to apples, avocados, and pomegranates. The exhibition provided Moroccan exporters with valuable opportunities to network with international buyers, gain insights into market trends, and explore technological advancements in the agricultural sector.
Future prospects and strategic vision
The impressive growth of Moroccan agricultural exports to Germany reflects the country’s broader vision for sustainable agricultural development. This vision emphasizes the importance of diversifying export markets, enhancing product quality, and adopting innovative agricultural practices.
Looking ahead, Morocco aims to further consolidate its position in the German market and beyond by continuing to invest in agricultural modernization, expanding its range of export products, and strengthening partnerships with key international stakeholders. The focus on sustainability, smart agriculture, and value-added products will be pivotal in driving the next phase of growth.
As global demand for high-quality, sustainably produced food continues to rise, Moroccan agricultural products are well-positioned to meet these expectations, cementing their reputation as a trusted choice in international markets.
