Casablanca –  Africa Morocco Link (AML), a prominent player in maritime transport across the Strait of Gibraltar, has officially launched a new Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) service that connects the Tangier Med port in Morocco to the Algeciras port in Spain. This strategic initiative is aimed at strengthening Moroccan exports, enhancing international transport via trucks and trailers, and facilitating smoother trade exchanges between Morocco and Europe.

The newly introduced RoRo service is specifically designed to accommodate unaccompanied vehicles, which include trailers, agricultural machinery, construction equipment, and any other mobile units that adhere to the technical specifications required for this mode of transport. This targeted approach reflects AML’s commitment to meet the diverse needs of its clientele, which includes exporters and logistics companies who rely on efficient transport solutions for their operations.

According to an official statement from AML, the service will operate with a frequency of one daily trip from each port, ensuring consistent and reliable transport options for shippers. The company has also indicated that it plans to gradually increase the number of daily rotations based on demand, indicating a flexible approach that responds to market needs. The service is facilitated by the Kaunas, a vessel with a capacity to carry 96 trailers, designed specifically to meet the operational requirements of this new route.

The Kaunas is equipped with advanced loading and unloading capabilities, ensuring that operations at both ports are carried out efficiently. This is particularly crucial during periods of high traffic, as the ship is also capable of transporting trucks with drivers when required by port authorities, thus optimizing the management of transport operations during peak times. Such features are expected to significantly enhance the overall efficiency of the transport process, reducing waiting times and streamlining logistical operations.

The launch of this new RoRo service marks a significant development for AML, aligning with the company’s broader strategy to expand and enhance its service offerings. This past summer, AML made strides in diversifying its portfolio by introducing a fast ferry line between Tangier city and Tarifa, further strengthening its position in the competitive maritime transport sector.

Ian Hampton, the General Manager of AML, expressed his enthusiasm about the new service, stating, “We are delighted to introduce our new RoRo service between Tangier Med and Algeciras, which adds significant value to our existing route by providing both accompanied and unaccompanied unit transport. With this RoRo offering, AML is committed to providing an efficient solution that meets the growing needs of our freight customers. This launch is a testament to our ongoing commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction.”

The introduction of this service is expected to bolster the movement of goods between Morocco and Europe, enabling Moroccan exporters to tap into new markets and enhancing the competitiveness of Moroccan products on the international stage. The improved connectivity is likely to facilitate quicker transit times and a more seamless flow of goods, ultimately benefiting businesses and consumers alike.

As AML continues to innovate and adapt to the evolving demands of the logistics industry, this new RoRo service is positioned to play a critical role in enhancing the efficiency of cross-border transport. By focusing on providing tailored solutions and maintaining a customer-centric approach, AML aims to solidify its reputation as a leader in maritime transport, further contributing to the growth of trade between Morocco and Europe.

With this development, AML is not only responding to the current demands of the market but also laying the groundwork for future growth, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of the maritime transport sector in the region. The company’s strategic initiatives are designed to enhance operational capabilities, expand service offerings, and ultimately drive greater value for its customers. As the landscape of global trade continues to evolve, AML is poised to meet the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
