Casablanca – Morocco has strengthened its position as a key market for Stellantis, securing its place as the company’s third-largest market in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region. The automotive group achieved sales of 35,000 vehicles in the country, an increase from 33,000 units in 2023. However, despite this growth in sales volume, Stellantis’ market share in Morocco saw a slight decline, reaching 19.9% in 2024, compared to 20.7% in 2023 and 20.8% in 2022.

Regional market position and trends
Across the MEA region, Stellantis sold a total of 538,000 vehicles in 2024, marking a 12.4% decrease compared to 614,000 units in 2023. Morocco ranked third in regional sales, following Turkey (343,000 units) and Algeria (67,000 units). The decline in total sales was primarily due to reduced demand in Turkey, where sales dropped from 419,000 units in 2023 to 343,000 in 2024, as well as ongoing import restrictions in Egypt, which contributed to a drop in sales to 6,000 units.

In the competitive MEA region, Toyota led the market with a 17.5% share in 2024, followed by Stellantis (13.5%) and Hyundai/Kia (13.1%). Volkswagen and Renault each held 8.2%, while Ford and Nissan accounted for 5.5% and 5.2%, respectively.

Strategic investments in Morocco
To strengthen its presence in Morocco, Stellantis completed the full acquisition of Sopriam, a vehicle and spare parts distribution company, for $149 million. The transaction was executed in two phases: in July 2024, Stellantis acquired a 42% stake, followed by the remaining 49% in January 2025 from Al Mada.

From January 2025, all Stellantis’ commercial operations in Morocco—including brands such as Peugeot, Citroën, DS Automobiles, Fiat, Fiat Professional, Abarth, Jeep, and Alfa Romeo—are consolidated under Stellantis Maroc, the new legal entity replacing FCA Maroc. Sopriam will continue managing direct vehicle distribution through its existing branch network.

Expansion into financial services
In addition to reinforcing its automotive business, Stellantis is expanding its financial services in Morocco. In February 2025, Axa Assurance Maroc and Stellantis’ financial subsidiary, Fidis S.p.A., entered exclusive negotiations for Stellantis to acquire 80% of Axa Crédit, the consumer credit arm of Axa Assurance Maroc. This move is expected to provide customers with integrated vehicle purchase solutions, including financing and insurance services.

Future outlook
Despite the regional decline in sales, Morocco remains a priority market for Stellantis within the MEA region. The group is focused on strengthening its distribution network, expanding its financial services, and reinforcing its industrial footprint to maintain and enhance its market position. The full integration of Sopriam and the potential acquisition of Axa Crédit reflect Stellantis’ long-term strategy for sustained growth in Morocco.
