Casablanca – Morocco’s tourism sector continued its strong performance during the first half of 2025, posting record numbers in both visitor arrivals and revenues. According to the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF), the country welcomed 11.6 million tourists between January and July, marking a 16% increase compared to the same period in 2024, when growth had already reached 15.4%.

July alone accounted for 2.7 million arrivals, including 1.8 million Moroccans living abroad, highlighting the enduring appeal of Morocco as a preferred destination for both international and diaspora travelers.

Rising overnight stays across the board

Tourist overnight stays in classified accommodation establishments also saw significant growth, rising 13% by the end of June 2025 compared to an 8.4% increase in 2024. This improvement was largely driven by strong second-quarter growth (+14%), following +11.7% in the first quarter.

Non-resident overnight stays surged 16%, while domestic overnight stays increased by 5%, recovering from a 2% decline in the same period last year. Analysts note that these trends reflect both the diversification of Morocco’s tourism offer and the growing confidence of travelers from multiple global markets.

Record-breaking revenues

Tourism revenues mirrored the sector’s strong performance, reaching $5.6 billion by the end of June. This represents an overall increase of 9.6% compared to the same period in 2024, with the second quarter alone seeing a 16.7% jump following a modest 2.2% rise in the first quarter.

Experts highlight that this financial growth underscores the strategic importance of tourism to Morocco’s economy and its contribution to the country’s fiscal balance. The sector’s ability to attract a diversified international clientele while strengthening the role of Moroccans living abroad has been a key factor behind this success.

Strategic roadmap and initiatives

The strong performance is closely linked to Morocco’s 2023–2026 tourism roadmap, which focuses on expanding air connectivity, promoting the country internationally, and offering diverse tourism experiences tailored to global demand. The strategy also aims to generate positive economic impact across Morocco’s regions.

Among the flagship initiatives supporting this vision is the “GO SIYAHA”(GO TOURISM) program, designed to develop innovative tourism experiences. Other measures include incubators in fields such as gastronomy and digital services, as well as a project bank featuring over 900 ready-to-launch initiatives. These programs aim to leverage local talent, create marketable tourism products, and increase tourist spending and length of stay.

Outlook

The sustained growth in arrivals, overnight stays, and revenues during the first half of 2025 demonstrates the resilience and appeal of Moroccan tourism. Observers note that this upward trend reflects both the confidence of international markets and the continued engagement of the Moroccan diaspora, reinforcing Morocco’s position as a rising tourism destination in the region.

With strategic investments in infrastructure, promotion, and innovative tourism experiences, Morocco appears well-positioned to continue this momentum and attract even more visitors in the months ahead.
