Casablanca  – The 25th edition of Morocco’s annual “Marhaba” operation concluded on Monday, recording a historic total of over 4.06 million Moroccans living abroad (MRE) welcomed back to their home country during the summer period. This represents an 11% increase compared with the previous year and marks the highest participation since the operation’s launch, underscoring its central role in connecting Morocco with its global diaspora.

Coordinated by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, the operation has become a cornerstone of Morocco’s efforts to maintain strong social and cultural ties with its citizens abroad. Over a span of more than three months—from June 10 to September 15, 2025—the operation combined logistical efficiency, humanitarian support, and medical assistance to accommodate the influx of returning Moroccans.

Efficient management during peak flows

According to Sanae Dardikh, Communications Director of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, the operation successfully managed daily flows exceeding 86,000 travelers during peak periods. She emphasized that the overall process ran in “very good conditions,” reflecting the careful planning and coordination among all actors involved.

To ensure smooth operations, the Foundation and its partners deployed 26 reception sites, including 20 within Morocco and six abroad, staffed by more than 1,000 personnel, including social workers, medical professionals, and support staff. These teams were responsible for guiding travelers, providing medical assistance, and facilitating administrative and customs procedures.

Medical and social support at the core

The operation’s medical and social support component played a key role in ensuring traveler safety. Over 88,000 Moroccans abroad received direct assistance, including 22,000 cases of administrative or customs support, 7,500 medical interventions (some critical), and 1,575 transport support operations.

Emergency interventions included travelers in urgent medical distress, who received immediate care and, when necessary, were transferred to hospitals for further treatment. These measures demonstrated the teams’ readiness and responsiveness to safeguard the well-being of all participants.

Humanitarian mission and symbolic significance

Beyond its operational success, “Marhaba 2025” underscores Morocco’s ongoing commitment to its citizens abroad. Officials note that the operation is not only a logistical undertaking but also a humanitarian initiative, ensuring that Moroccans living overseas receive the support they need during seasonal returns. The extensive mobilization of human and logistical resources highlights the Foundation’s core mission: providing emergency medical assistance, administrative and customs support, and transport services to Moroccans abroad whenever necessary

Expansion of reception network

This year’s edition also saw the opening of two new reception sites in Dakhla and Laayoune, further expanding the geographic coverage of the operation and ensuring greater accessibility for travelers in the southern regions. These additions, combined with the existing 26 sites, reflect the Kingdom’s long-term investment in a comprehensive and reliable reception system for its diaspora.

Record participation reflects strong diaspora ties

With over four million Moroccans crossing back to their homeland this summer, “Marhaba 2025” set a new benchmark in participation. Officials highlight that these figures not only reflect the operational success of the program but also demonstrate the enduring attachment of the Moroccan diaspora to their country of origin, and the effectiveness of Morocco’s mobilization of resources to support their safe and smooth travel.

As one of the largest and most complex humanitarian and logistical operations in the Mediterranean region, “Marhaba” continues to play a central role in reinforcing social cohesion, national solidarity, and the bonds between Morocco and its citizens abroad. The 2025 edition has reaffirmed the operation’s importance as both a logistical achievement and a symbol of Morocco’s commitment to its diaspora.
